FAQs
Do you prescribe diets?
No I don’t. Your doctor, naturopathic doctor, or functional medicine doctor should be the one to prescribe special diets, and only after appropriate lab work. If you have a restrictive diet, I can help you adhere to your treatment plan. Health coaching has been shown in multiple studies to increase positive health outcomes. In the absence of lab work and a doctor, my process is client led.
What do you think about carnivore or vegan diets?
Generally, I’m skeptical of eliminating entire food groups, except for maybe in the case of a prescribed elimination diet for the treatment of an autoimmune disease or a medically monitored detox. That being said, healthy eating can look many different ways. I’m not here to preach, and will work with you to achieve your optimal health, within the guidelines and boundaries you establish.
What was your education?
I studied integrative nutrition and health coaching at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition (IIN). It was a year-long course, totaling about 420 clock hours of nutrition science, health and coaching methodology. The school is accredited. As a comparison, average medical students receive less than 20 hours of nutrition study in their entire medical schooling. I also have a “Sandan” rank in traditional Okinawan Karate (3rd degree black belt) and continue to regularly train in that art and Wu Style Tai Chi.
Do you accept insurances?
Although health coaching has a proven role in reducing the overall cost of health care, the political and corporate class hasn’t caught up yet. My services are cash pay, and I’d argue that investing in your health is the realest wealth in life. When you’re healthy, you can tackle any number of life goals, but when you’re sick, you only have one goal - to get healthy.
where are coaching sessions and how long are they?
Normal coaching sessions are 1 hour long. Many people are well served with bi-weekly sessions, some will be better served with weekly sessions. My coaching program is located at Nibukikan Martial Arts Academy in Chico, CA. I’m also available for remote sessions through Google Meet. I will work with your schedule, and am generally available seven days per week.
